Field tool vs full systemCampaign Sidekick vs FreedomVote
A respected canvassing app against a campaign that also has to raise money, sell dinner tickets, print signs, mail voters, and keep the treasurer out of trouble. Both can be the right answer.
Campaign Sidekick is a field-focused canvassing app for Republican campaigns, priced from $99 per user per month; FreedomVote is a full campaign system — voter file, field, fundraising, events, texting, print, website and compliance — priced per organization from $39/month. They overlap on one thing: door-to-door canvassing and walk lists. Outside of field, they are not really competing for the same job.
If your state party mandates Sidekick as the approved voter-contact vendor — as several do, including California — the choice is already made for field work, and you should use it. The real question most campaigns and committees are actually asking is whether they need one tool for one job, or one system for the eleven jobs a campaign actually has. That is a scope question, not a quality one.

Field is one job. A campaign has eleven.
Campaign Sidekick does one thing and, by every account, does it well: it gets your volunteers to the right doors with the right script and gets the results back to you. That is a real and valuable job.
But a campaign is not just field. Between the filing deadline and Election Day you will also need to raise money, sell tickets to a Lincoln Day dinner, order yard signs, keep a website current, text and email your list, and hand your treasurer a clean set of books. A field-only app was never built to do any of that, and it shows the moment you try — you end up buying four or five more tools and stitching them together yourself.
FreedomVote treats field as one of eleven built-in parts instead of the whole product. If field is genuinely the only job you have — a state mandate, a pure canvassing operation, a data-heavy statewide program — Sidekick’s focus is a real advantage, not a limitation to talk you out of.
Where your state requires Sidekick, use Sidekick. Everywhere else, ask what else you actually need.
We are not going to tell you a canvassing app built and refined for one job does that job poorly — it doesn’t. What we will tell you is that per-user pricing punishes exactly the growth you want in October, and that a campaign running five separate logins for five separate jobs is a campaign spending its volunteers’ time on software instead of on voters.
Straight answers
Is Campaign Sidekick good?
Yes. It is a well-regarded, field-focused canvassing app, and campaigns that use it for walk lists and door-to-door tracking generally like it. If your whole job is field, it is a reasonable, purpose-built choice. We are not here to talk you out of a tool that works.
My state party requires Campaign Sidekick. What do I do?
Use it. In states like California, the state party designates Campaign Sidekick as the approved voter-contact vendor and gates data access through it — that is a real institutional requirement, not a preference, and no other tool substitutes for it. Many FreedomVote campaigns in mandate states run Sidekick for field and FreedomVote for everything else: fundraising, events, print, compliance, the website.
What does Campaign Sidekick cost?
Campaign Sidekick starts at $99 per user, per month — published pricing, no hidden add-ons that we are aware of. That is a per-seat model: add a second staffer or a field director and the bill doubles. FreedomVote is priced per organization, not per person, starting at $39/month for a candidate and $149/month for a committee with everyone included.
Can I use both at the same time?
Yes, and plenty of campaigns do, especially in mandate states. Run Sidekick for the walk lists and canvassing your state party requires, and run FreedomVote for the ten other jobs a campaign has — website, fundraising, texting, print, events, compliance and volunteer records — that a field-only tool was never built to do.
Does FreedomVote do door-knocking too?
Yes — walk lists, turf cutting, a canvassing app for volunteers, and printed lists for the ones who prefer paper. It is one of eleven parts of the system, not the whole system. If field is genuinely your only need and your state has no mandate either way, that narrower focus is a real reason to pick a dedicated field tool instead.
Why does FreedomVote charge per organization instead of per user?
Because campaigns grow their volunteer count, not their budget, as Election Day gets closer. A per-user field tool gets more expensive exactly when you are adding block captains and canvassers. A flat, per-organization price means recruiting a hundred volunteers in October costs the same as recruiting ten in June.
